Who runs this site?
powerplans.com is operated by Light, a licensed retail electricity provider certified in Texas by the Public Utility Commission of Texas (PUCT certificate #10340). The people who build and write this site work in retail electricity every day. We design plans people are glad they picked, run programs that put home batteries and smart devices to work, and build the software other companies use to offer electricity.
We built this site because shopping for electricity in a deregulated market is harder than it should be. The market works better for people who understand it, so most of our effort goes into explaining it plainly and comparing plans on their actual numbers.
Light is the retail electricity provider that powers the plans on this site, including those offered under a partner's brand.
Our editorial standards
Every guide on this site aims to be the most useful answer to its question. The way we work:
- Answer first, in plain language. The first paragraph under every heading answers the question directly; detail and nuance come after, and industry jargon gets defined where it appears.
- Worked math over adjectives. Where money is involved, we show a calculation you can check rather than a claim you have to trust.
- Sources you can check yourself. Guides about your rights as a customer are grounded in the governing regulator's rules (the PUCT's rules in Texas) and link to the source documents, so you can verify the guidance yourself.
- Neutral on brands, direct about practices. We don't name-and-shame providers. We do plainly describe practices worth watching for, and explain the economics of why they exist.
Our guides are researched, written, and reviewed by the team at Light rather than credited to individual bylines. Most pages are the work of several people. If you spot something wrong, email support@poweredbylight.com and we'll fix it.
Where does the plan data come from?
Plan details and pricing come from each plan's current offer. Every plan links to its own official disclosure (the Electricity Facts Label in Texas), so you can verify what we display against the governing document.
