Who runs this site?
powerplans.com is operated by Light, a licensed retail electricity provider certified in Texas by the Public Utility Commission of Texas (PUCT certificate #10340). The people who build and write this site work in retail electricity markets every day, including designing plans, running device and energy programs, and building the software behind them.
We built this site because electricity in a deregulated market is more confusing than it should be. The market works better for people who understand it, so our effort goes into explaining it plainly, with math you can check.
How does this site make money?
This is not an independent third-party site. Light sells electricity in Texas, and a market that people understand is good for that business.
That commercial interest makes transparency important. The guides carry no sales pressure, and the educational guidance applies no matter which provider you choose.
Our editorial standards
Every guide on this site aims to be the most useful answer to its question. The way we work:
- Answer first, in plain language. The first paragraph under every heading answers the question directly; detail and nuance come after, and industry jargon gets defined where it appears.
- Worked math over adjectives. Where money is involved, we show a calculation you can check rather than a claim you have to trust.
- Sources you can check yourself. Guides about your rights as a customer are grounded in the governing regulator's rules (the PUCT's rules in Texas) and link to the source documents, so you can verify the guidance yourself.
- Neutral on brands, direct about practices. We don't name-and-shame providers. We do plainly describe practices worth watching for, and explain the economics of why they exist.
Our guides are researched, written, and reviewed by the team at Light rather than credited to individual bylines. Most pages are the work of several people. If you spot something wrong, email customer-support@poweredbylight.com and we'll fix it.
